Advanced Periodontal Treatment Can Eliminate Gum Disease and Other Oral Health Concerns

Dr. Nghi Tran, DDS, FAGD, FICOI, offers complete periodontal treatment to patients in Garland, TX and the surrounding areas. At Hue Dental, PLLC, we are particularly known for our effective gum disease treatment. Often, Dr. Tran uses state-of-the-art periodontal lasers to perform scaling and root planing with minimal discomfort and recovery time. He also provides gum and bone grafting. These procedures can restore your smile and oral health following gum recession due to over-brushing or gum diseases. With his skill and advanced tools, he can remove small amounts of tissue without affecting the healthy parts of your mouth.

What Is Gum Disease?

If bacteria are allowed to accumulate in your mouth, you will eventually develop gum disease and loss of bone surrounding your teeth (periodontitis). This is one reason that regular preventive treatment is so important. Nevertheless, even when you care for your teeth properly, you could still suffer from gum disease because of genetics or other medical conditions such as diabetes. Once the bacteria start to multiply, they will move deep into your gums, forming pockets around your tooth roots. The pockets will grow larger over time, and your gums will start to pull away. Eventually, you could suffer from widespread tooth loss, as well as visible gum recession, bleeding, sensitivity, and even jawbone recession.

Treatment for Gum Disease

Scaling and root planing is the most common treatment for gum disease. During this procedure, Dr. Tran will eliminate the bacteria in your gums. He will also remove the uneven patches from your tooth roots. Bacteria can easily gather in these areas, so scaling and planing will help to prevent these bacteria to cause gingival flare ups. Your practitioner can perform this treatment using traditional techniques. However, in most cases, he will use lasers to reduce discomfort and recovery time. Lasers will fully eradicate the harmful bacteria in your gum, but because they are so precise, they will not affect the surrounding tissues. The laser energy will also seal your blood vessels, so your treatment will involve negligible bleeding.

Tissue Grafting for Severe Gum Disease

If you have suffered gum or bone recession as a result of periodontitis, you may benefit from a tissue graft. We will use sterilized artificial or sterilized skin tissues for the procedure. Your gums will be numb during the surgery, so you should experience little discomfort. Dr. Tran will place the tissues over the eroded areas of your gums. Small, dissolvable sutures will keep the sample in place until it integrates with your gum line. A gum graft can improve your appearance, and it can also prevent future tooth loss.

A bone graft is a similar procedure. Dr. Tran may take a sample of your own bone, often from your chin or another part of your jaw. Alternatively, he may use sterilized donor bone or a synthetic material. Through a small incision in your gums, he will use the sample to rebuild the weakened areas of your jaw. Small anchor posts will keep the bone in place until your jaw has fully healed.

Other Periodontal Treatments

Along with treatment for gum disease, we offers additional periodontal treatments for both cosmetic and functional purposes. These oral surgery procedures include:

For your convenience and comfort, we will often use radiosurgery techniques to perform these surgeries.
